UBC Players Club is now accepting applications for tech crew members for Festival Dionysia, a show made up of six one-act plays written and performed by local artists.

Festival Dionysia is a wonderful opportunity to bring together artists of all different types of experience and talent. This festival is a great opportunity to try out new roles in the theatre or get involved for the first time! No experience required.

The auditions for this year’s Festival Dionysia is finally open! Audition for a chance to star in one of our 6 original and professional one act plays produced this year.

The audition dates are:

Day 1: January 24th (5:30 PM – 9:00 PM)
Day 2: January 25th (5:30 PM – 9:00 PM)
Day 3: January 26th (10:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
Callbacks: January 27th (TBA)

The Crew Call for this year’s Festival Dionysia is finally open! This year, we have a mix of 6 wonderful original and professional one acts plays lined up, and we would love to have YOU on our team.

Light board Operator(s)
Sound board Operator(s)
Assistant Stage Manager(s)

Don’t worry if you’ve never done theatre before. There are a lot of spots open for Assistant Stage Manager, and absolutely no experience is necessary. You’ll work directly with the Stage Manager, the Production crew, and your respective director and actors. Come play with us!

The UBC Players Club is proud to announce our co-production of Dear Elizabeth, a Vancouver Fringe Festival Production with Wunderdog Theatre!

Integrating new technology with traditional theatrical conventions, Wunderdog Theatre is a Canadian theatre company that explores new ways to tell classic and critically acclaimed stories, examining the way we consume narrative in a digital era. Comprised of recent graduates from Vancouver theatre programs, Wunderdog Theatre has strong mandate to provide creative opportunities for emerging artists of all persuasions.

Mainstage Proposal Submission DEADLINE EXTENDED

Hello, Players!

It’s time to think about the mainstage production for the next school year! Do you want to direct a mainstage production this fall AND choose which play? Look no further.

Any aspiring director, experienced or inexperienced, can apply by filling out the UBC PC Mainstage Proposal Form and emailing it over to productions@ubcplayersclub.com by April 14th.

Generally the plays should be 45 ~ 90 minutes long, and if it is relatively short it may be part of a double bill.

We’re looking forward to all the talent out there!

Audition information for this year’s Festival Dionysia is finally out! We are still looking for crew members as well, though, so click here for more information if that is more up your alley.

 

For auditions, the dates are:

January 19th: 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM

January 20th: 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM

January 21st: Callbacks 

Location: TBA

 

Please prepare a monologue around 2 minutes in length to audition with, and email your availability, headshot, and acting resume (if applicable) to productions@ubcplayersclub.com

Hello, Players!

We’ve been looking for Crew members for this year’s Dionysia for awhile and we still need more!

 

We are still looking for:

1 Sound designer

2 Costume designers

2 Set designers

2 Prop designers/masters

1 Light board Operator

1 Sound board Operator

1 Stage Manager

6 Assistant Stage Managers

The festival will run March 14th – 18th, and tech week before that, which you will be required to be available along with other days for production meetings, etc (should there be complications, please talk to us)

Call for Submissions: Festival Dionysia 2018 DEADLINE EXTENDED

Hello, Players!

We are NOW accepting submissions for the 7th annual Festival Dionysia!

Festival Dionysia is an annual festival of One Acts by the UBC Players Club, directed, written and produced mostly by UBC students. If you would like to direct or write a one act play, this is your chance!

 

Playwrights, please fill out the form and email both the form and your script of an one act play no more than 20 pages to us.

 

Directors, please fill out the form and email it to us. No experience is necessary.

Optional:

1. You can propose a play as well if you are passionate about directing a non-original one act. Also around 20 pages.

2. You can send in a resume on top of the form if you have/want.

 

Deadline for both is December 4th, 2017.

Doubt: A Parable – Buy your tickets NOW!!

Doubt: A Parable is a Pulitzer Prize winning play by John Patrick Shanley. It tells a story of a conflict between a nun and priest and the resulting uncertainty that surrounds the guilty party. The play takes an introspective looking into race, religion and sexuality.

Doubt is directed by forth-year Theatre student, Samuel Jing.

CALLING FOR CAST AND CREW DOUBT: A PARABLE

Hello, Players!

First of all, I would like to welcome everyone back to the Players Club for another fun-packed year of theatre here on the UBC campus! Our fall mainstage production is Doubt: A Parable by John Patrick Shanley. This Pulitzer-winning play is about a conflict between a nun and priest, getting the audience at the edge of their seats as it becomes more and more unclear who is the guilty party all the while taking an introspective look into race, religion, and sexuality.

This Production will take place from November 12th – 19th.

Please carefully read and follow the instructions below if you are interested in joining the cast and crew!

 

ACTORS

No experience is necessary.

Email: productions@ubcplayersclub.com by Wednesday, September 27th with the following information:

  • Headshot

  • List of experiences (or lack of- perfectly all right) or Acting resume

  • Contact information

  • Preferred audition time within September 29 (2:00 PM – 5:30 PM) and September 30th (10:00 AM – 7:00 PM)

Please prepare a short monologue to audition with, but cold reads will also be available. Callbacks October 1st.

CREW

Email: productions@ubcplayersclub.com as soon as possible. We are looking for:

Please include in the email a few reasons why you are interested or qualify for the position. If we receive multiple applications for positions requiring experience, we will go through a quick vetting process to determine the final candidates.

Finally, in order to be cast in the show or join our crew, you are required to be a member of the Players Club. (You do not need to be to audition) Membership fee is $10 for UBC students, $15 for non-UBC students and $5 for renewals. Your membership also gets you discounts to shows and as cast and crew, you will be eligible for a complimentary ticket.
