CALL FOR ACTORS AND CREW – 2016 Fall Mainstage Production

CALL FOR ACTORS AND CREW – 2016 Fall Mainstage Production

Hello friends,

The UBC Players Club is seeking actors and crew members for their upcoming fall production! Auditions will be held from September 16th-18th!

Disgraced by Ayad Akhtar is more than just a play, it’s a witty and eloquent sociopolitical statement. The play enters the world of Amir and Emily and post 9/11 New York. The gripping text pulls you into a dinner party they have with their friends which quickly gets heated as religion and politics simmer to the surface. Through the journey and dialogue of the diverse characters, the audience is presented with themes like Islamaphobia and the self-identity of Muslim-Americans. By taking part in this production you will be challenging yourself as well as the current Islamaphobic rhetoric growing around the world. Disgraced is your chance to not only be a part of a beautifully written play but also to be a part of an initiative that forces people to think about the current political climate and the negative ramifications it has on our community.

If you are interested in auditioning (and we hope you are), please send the following information to [email protected] before September 15th:

– Your full name
– Phone Number
– Headshot or clear photo of yourself
– A list of your previous acting experience (if applicable)
– Your preferred audition date and any availability restrictions for that day

For the audition, you will be asked to prepare a short dramatic monologue (max. 2 mins)

There will be cold reads available, but we strongly suggest preparing something beforehand. Physical copies of your acting experience and photo are not required at the audition. However, we do ask that you arrive 10 MINUTES EARLY to your audition.

If you are interested in working crew we are looking for Lighting, Set, Costume, Prop and Sound Designers. Please send the following to [email protected] before September 18th.

– Your full name
– Phone Number
– Your portfolio (if applicable)
– A copy of your resume (if applicable)

Keep in mind that we may ask for an interview with the director before positions are given.

The Player’s Club is very excited to facilitate this very relevant and important piece of theatre. Due to the intense nature of the piece ALL cast/crew members will be asked to participate in a workshop on September 25th!

We hope to see you at auditions!

The Orbweaver at the Vancouver Fringe!

The Orbweaver at the Vancouver Fringe!

Greetings, players!

This fall, the UBC Players Club is co-producing a show at the Vancouver Fringe Festival: The Orbweaver, by Mexican playwright and UBC alumnus Paula Zelaya Cervantes, running from September 9-18th on the Revue Stage!

First conceived in 2014, this play has since been developed extensively in Mexico. We are thrilled to be presenting this international production to a Canadian audience alongside Once Once Producciones and the Quimera Theatre Collective.

A black comedy and twisted Mexican fairy tale all rolled into one, The Orbweaver tells the story of a boy and girl who fall in love. The girl is a lover of all things lively and bright, while the boy is Death’s own personal assistant. They can only be together when someone dies. Shadow puppets, magic and murder will all combine in this exciting showcase of international talent!

You can buy tickets here!

Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you in the year ahead!
